To you, my friend, I write the reason I sill live because in my mind, it's set the vitamin is ripe to give. I would read them in the order they released. So The Giver (1993), Gathering Blue (2000), then Messenger (2004).
    I'm bad news.

It doesn't matter with the Giver and Gathering Blue, but the Messenger should be read last.

They are not directly related to each other, as to say, they are not a book "series." However they are based on the same theme - A so-called "Utopian" society where everything seems right, until someone discovers that their picture perfect society is seriously flawed.

I personally loved The Giver, and Gathering Blue. I haven't read The Messenger yet, but I've heard a lot about it. I would also read them in the order they were released, The Giver, Gathering Blue, and then The Messenger.

I hated The Giver. I wasn't aware that Lowry had made a series out of it, but I've no intention of looking into it.

I read the Giver waaay back in like junior high (I am 20 years old now), and I think it was pretty good. Are the other ones worth reading? Are they worth it for someone who is in college and reads adult literature ? Just wondering, because I saw them at the school book store and was considering getting all three.

I didn't think that you had to read them in any order, but you should probably read them in the order previously suggested. I didn't think they would be that great until I picked up the giver and started reading it.

For those of you that have read the Giver and Gathering Blue...I was wondering if you picked up on the hint about Jonas from the Giver. In Gathering Blue...it talks about a boy with blue eyes...i think it is hinting that Jonas is in the camp.

It doesn't matter with the Giver and Gathering Blue, but you should read the Giver before you read Messenger, because Messenger is kind like a sequel to the Giver, but with different characters.
