This is something that has been bugging me since the start of the academic year. How will the faculty decide whether im put forward for e-c, or c-e? do they asses your work throughout the year (i am in year 9 by the way) or does it come down to the mock exams and SATS? Its highly irritating as i unfortunately suffered a bout of UNGODLY illness the last half term, and thus have minorly fallen behind. I am catching up the work, not to be misunderstood, but i also have received 2 bad grades. will these affect my GCSE standing? i simply cant do poorly in GCSE's. Does anybody have any advice on how this system works? I also dont wan to be viewed as a waster, i want to do well.
Thank you for your time in advance. Straight.

It really depends on your school, it's normally done in one of three ways.
1.) It's based on your work over the year, and also what potential your teachers think you have to reach. 2.) You do a "mock" GCSE, a practise paper, and depending on the grade you get on that, you will be put forward for a higher/lower paper. 3.) It's done based on sets, the top two sets (if your school uses the set system) do the higher paper, and the next 2 middle tier, etc etc. There's always room for change, if you get put in for a lower paper, you can see your subject teacher, and say that you think you can do better, you want to do the higher. They will more than likely already have taken into account your illness

Luke covered most of it. Do ask to be put higher if you think you are up to it. I can't see a teacher saying now if they think you are capable of achieving the lower grades of the higher tier.

Also, you're in the early stages of year 9. Which tier you're put in for it is usually decided late year 11, unless you're doing some papers in year 10. Either way it shouldn't really have any affect on it, don't worry.
