It's something I'm considering. I'm not sure. I'm doing a human biology degree. And then after that, who knows?
Heh, postgrad in medicine, neurology and a PGCE are all options at the moment. |

Yer I have been considering it heavily over the last few months, I would love to either become a Social Science teacher or an IT Teacher

Lots of my friends are, yeah, although I don't think they realised quite how hard it was to get onto the PGCE.
I plan to do my masters, and then teach in my dotage. Should be fun. Children are our future, do do do.

It's not something I plan to do, but it's something that I could see in my future. After any sort of post-graduate study, of course.
And that's if I don't manage to become a successful author. Otherwise I guess I'll teach biology. Or French.

This or join the police are two ideas I have. If I don't believe I have the talent to go into graphic/web design and/or copywriting.

Not something I have ever thought about doing, and I can't really see myself doing it. Law/government/business for me me thinks.

I have thought about it, and I'd probably do it in the distant future. It seems like a job where you can get a good work-life balance - 3 months holiday, sick leave, 8am-4pm. The only thing that's stopping me is that the pay is inferior unless you have worked a long time, even then it's not so good.

I also don't think people realise how hard it is to actually become a teacher. You need a minimum of 20 hours observation + teaching experience to even be considered for a PGCE course; you need a 2:1 or above to do an MA (which is perhaps to become mandatory for all would-be teachers in around 2012) and you need a shit load of money and time.
If you want to do TEFL or anything like that you need 100+ hours of experience and a lot of money. It's not at all as you would imagine, which is why the idea of vocational teaching appeals so much more to me. Just falling into it in old-age in a vocational profession which doesn't require the inordinately extensive qualification list (namely post-compulsory teaching) appeals much more to me, personally.

Teaching History is a possibility, dependent on my final uni grade/whether or not i'd need to do an extra history degree/was able to get onto an MA (screw doing an MSc).

Yes I am aware of that, but I wouldn't use "hell" to describe it.

There are lots of opportunities; but it's important to get your own experience in this country first. Things like Student Associate Schemes, in-class observations, etc.. You could even just contact your old school and ask for some observation time. Your best bet is to get over-qualified: Trinity College do a good qualification for around £1000 which is recognised internationally. When you've gained as much experience as is possible for you to get before you go out, you should be able to pick a location, blanket contact the schools and speak to them directly about placements.
