I closed up the story in the notebook and put it in my inside pocket and I asked the waiter for a dozen porugaises and a half carafe of the dry white wine they had there. After writing a story I was always empty and both sad and happy, as though I had made love, and I was sure this was a very good story although I would not know truly how good until I read it over the next day.
As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy and to make plans. Ernest Hemingway

I'm confused. Did you write this, or are you quoting someone?

Let's start from the top shall we? 1. In the title "Take a Break For Hemingway" the original author is immediatly recognized. 2. Following this excerpt from "A Moveable Feast" (by Ernest Hemingway) he is immediatly credited for his contribution to american culture in the sixties. I can see why this might have been confusing for you since you have not yet been immersed in 20th century american literature like most have. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And to the people who think the countdown forum is not an acceptable media for this thread go be an heros and stop posting on it. <3 Meowmilk

I love this thread. I used to dislike meowmilk, but then I saw the beauty in his posts and can laugh at those who fall for it.

I love all of you still. Too bad my friend wikipedia (a former mod who will remain nameless) is no longer with us.
He was my pal. My next story will be dedicated to wikipedia (a former mod who will remain nameless). That is all.

Ah, epic amusement as usual.
You should probably have referenced him better, though. It's not cool to sully the name of one of our greatest writers by not crediting him properly.

And next time, maybe something from Steinbeck (who I personally find to be a better author)... East of Eden is FULL of allusions to chose your double-entendres from... Or would that take all the fun out of it for you?
