Default Shift in Pop Music trend?...

Pop music most recently focused on club and mild electronic sounds.

However with two new songs out, retrograding to an amped-up 80's sound, does anyone think this could be the new direction pop will head in for a while?

Song 1) Black Eyed Peas, Meet Me Halfway http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LK1CGsUi6w4

Song 2) Jordin Sparks, S.O.S. (Let the Music Play) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32FRl3glzQE

No, but I think at this rate, the only direction pop music is heading towards is a brick wall.

Pop can head any way it wants to. Look at Lady GaGa. She has influenced pop in such a weird way, but it's amazing. I think it's certainly possible, seeing all the new artists. I really hope that Justin Bieber just doesn't influence it.

It seems pop is starting to become more dominant again. If I recall, early 2006 to about late 2008, I swear Hiphop/Rap dominated the Mainstream radio. Pop is finally starting to finally get it's rightful thrown on the airwaves again. Though I'm not a fan of all pop, it's sure better than what I used to hear a few years ago.

I also think because of Hiphop during that time, Pop was more geared toward R+B/Soul. At the moment, I'm starting to realize it's shifting to a more techno-ish, electronic type of phase. Synthesizers and unnessecary vocal effects are starting to bloom again. Even a lot of the (wannabe) rock bands on the radio are incorporating electronic and techno sounds. Dance music is also starting to become quite mainstream also.

I think the change is nice. This type of music does have a tendency with the beats sounding repetitive after a while, but it's quite natural for pop music. Britney, Gaga, Madonna, Katy Perry, anyone you hear on the radio uses a formula -- a type of beat and/or collection of instrumentals that most appeal to the crowd

Catchiness is the key.

I think pop has a lot more 'club' feel to it lately than it did a few years ago.

I think lots of pop is going back to a kind of eighties club mix feel. It's a good direction.

God hates figs:
Quote:
Mark 11:12-14 (King James Version)
12And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
13And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
14And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
