I'm fed up with being overweight and out of shape. I feel shitty when I can't even fit comfortably into my favorite clothes anymore...
Can someone who is athletic or in shape say what exactly they do to stay in shape? What's a good way to start working out? |

Well personally I play one of the most per-time calorie-intensive sports possible (squash), so being on a team and playing 1-2 hours 6 days a week really does a lot of it. Other than that, I also lift (I split push/pull/legs except I have to do a full body lift with my team every Thursday which makes it complicated - all lifting sessions include a substantial core workout, for the record) a few times a week and do the occasional running, plus some spinning (it's an extremely difficult workout if you do it right).

The best thing to do in order to lose weight is to find a routine that works for you and some exercises that go along with it. I personally prefer a combination of body building by focusing on my upper body every other day while using the rest of the week to focus on my lower body when I can and doing speed workouts as well, while running several miles if I get the chance.
No two people are alike though. You should find a workout routine or something that fits your schedule and gets you involved in the activities that you would enjoy. Bringing a friend with to help with motivation is also a great way to lose weight. The other person who might also be at your level of fitness will be there to push you along when you do not have the energy to keep going and you will be there to help your friend out when he/she needs it.
