Is there a such as you put only one button of your suit when it's informal and 2 buttons when it's formal or something like that? I'd like to know

3-buttons:
From top to bottom:
Sometimes
Always
Never
(Sam)

I can't remember where I learned that from, but I've used it to this day.

If your wearing a suit which has two buttons it is best to either simply button the top button or leave the jacket open. You do have the option of buttoning up both of the buttons however, in my opinion it is irrelevant. Many people opt for dinner jackets which only have one button anyway. The number of buttons which you chose to button down is irrelevant.

P.S. Try and avoid 3 buttons suits, 2 buttons and single buttons are far more modern.

Really it's supposed to be 3 buttons all the time 'cos the suit is cut for three buttons and made to fit when all three buttons are done up.

However, informally a lot of people will just have the middle one done up, or the top two, as Rob said.

My jackets are two button, and if I have only one button done, it's the top one.

Three button jackets don't look good in my opinion...

Single button jackets are more trendy for the most part, there are exceptions in that blanket statement though.

On a two button jacket only button the top button.

On a three button jacket just button the middle button, if it fits well and the lapels have a nice roll it should roll down to at least a 2.5 or even to 2 buttons....known as a 3 roll 2.5, or a 3 roll 2.

On double breasted suits, like a 6x2 button stance, just button the top button.

Don't buy double breasted suits that are a 6x3 button stance...

Here endeth the lesson.

That's because, unfortunately, most guys button all three buttons which make them look like tools. If there is good waist suppression in the jacket, and you button the middle button the lapels should roll down to the second button(or close to it)

This, exactly.

The bottom button on a two button is only there for balance -- 95% of two-button suits are cut to be worn with only the top button buttoned.
