Yeah, so what if I'm sexually active, Mom? I'm 19 years old. I've been in a relationship for 5 years. And at least I'm smart enough to have safe sex - for God's sake, you were the one who get pregnant when you were several years younger than I am now. By a man who wasn't even your "boyfriend".

I totally see your point about the hypocracy here especially considering that your Mum was pregnant when she was still a teenager. You would think that she of all people would be compassionate and understanding rather than fly off the handle. After all, I am sure she felt awful when her parents most likely chewed her out for her pregnancy.

To play devil's advocate, my guess is that your Mum wants you to have a much better future than her. No sane parent wants to see their kid end up making the same bad decisions as they did, and no sane parent wants to see their kid end up doing worse than them. I am thinking that your Mum wanted you to be older when you had your first sexual experience for reasons only known to her. Also, it is hard for any parent to watch their little girl change into a woman with adult feelings and who does adult actions.

At this point I would not get mad at her and place her actions into context as most likely she cares about you so much that she did not want you to get pregnant until you were done with school or were older. I would let her calm down for a couple of days as she will most likely remember her own pregnancy. When she is calm and when you two are on speaking terms, then I would emphasize you are being responsible and that you are doing everything you can and more to avoid issues that may come with sexual activity.

I see where she's coming from (since she got pregnant young, she's scared you will too), but just point out you have the intelligence to use birth control. You're in a steady relationship, too.
