A rare post from me in this particular forum - was wondering if someone here could help with a small issue at the moment which is annoying me greatly.
My computer is connected to our broadband modem via a wireless adapter. A couple of weeks ago I switched my computer on in the morning and discovered that the internet connection had become extremely unreliable - it would show the network signal strength and connectivity as being perfect, but while using Firefox or other internet applications it would slow to a crawl and then drop out completely, despite working perfectly on the other two computers in my house, one of which is a laptop also connected via wireless, but with a different adaptor. After trying about a trillion different things suggested on various websites I finally traced the problem - it seems a recent Windows update has installed a new driver for the network adapter which for some reason isn't working correctly. I have been able to fix the problem by rolling back the driver, but now every time I shut down the computer it asks me whether I want to install the new Windows updates. Obviously I don't want to keep saying "no" or else nothing will be updated, but it's also a hassle having to roll back the driver on the adapter every time I start the computer. Basically, is there a way I can exclude the wireless adapter from receiving further updates, without preventing updates for other devices being installed? If it's not possible it obviously isn't a disaster, but it would make my lazy life a little easier if I could set it up this way. Thanks in advance for help. ![]() Edit - Should also have mentioned that I use Vista 64.

Open up the Control Panel, then find Windows Update and open that. Under the Install Updates button there should be another option that says something along the lines of Advanced settings. Find the update that is updating the wireless drivers, then right click it, and click Hide this Update.
If that doesn't work, you could also turn off automatic updating, and then when you need to update it, go back into the Advanced Settings and deselect the wireless driver update and update everything else. |
