Default Australian Music

So I visited Australia in 2008 and my friend was into John Butler's Trio, were they/ are they a big band in Australia or were they unknowns? Also, what music is big in Australia I also got the sense that American music (a lot of Country) was popular, is that true?

(I'm not sure if this goes in here or Music Forum)

John Butler Trio are reasonably big, i like them too (:
There's a big country scene, but it's not usually mainstreamed on commercial radio.

We do have a reasonably large country music industry, but as Nathan said, its definitely not mainstream or on any of the radios (apart from that specific type). Basically everything that is played in the US or UK (Mainstream) is played down under as well. Radio is basically just Pop stuff that I don't like.

Ya, they're from Perth, I met them, bunch of knobheads tbh.

We have a big music scene to be fair, it'd be like asking 'what music's popular in the USA?'

hahaha, tbh most musicians are stuck-up dicks, but its not their personality i am into, only their music

I love the Hoods, but Bliss n Eso are a little too whacked out for me.
I do like the Funkoars though, they're good.
