ok so i was on myspace viewing friends profiles i stumbeld across a video called meet your meet im like great another one of those dam vegitarian videos trying not to get you to eat meat i was wrong. now ive always ben a meat eater i love meat my whole family does but when i seen this video it did something to me its not right what they do to these animals im not saying be vegi that wont help these animals theal die eathier way pepole need to protest these animal sluaghter houses and if they actly let these animals life a nice life on a farm some where and put them down nicely i think itd be perfectly fine to enjoy meat watch this video and then post a comment on what you think about what i just said http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RysQq...layer_embedded


Mexican newspapers are reporting that a U.S. owned hog farm in Veracruz is where the illness was first incubated and spread to humans.
Mexican paper La Jornada claims that the virus can be traced to Granjas Carroll, a hog farm in Veracruz owned by U.S. pork giant, Smithfield Foods. Smithfield Foods has actually been sued multiple times in the U.S. for improperly managing their feces disposal and in the case of Granjas Carroll, locals of the farm town complain about the “lagoon of feces” that the farm has created–they say that the smell is intolerable and that it incubates giant swarms of flies. In fact, the biting flies may be to blame for spreading the virus, as they could provide a conduit between pig and human bloodstreams.

now there is the proven fact where swine flu came from proving if these horrible pepole would take care of there animals better maby this world wide panic woudlnt be happeing right now and its wayy father than just the abuse of animals and yes you guys are right we all cant hunt but in alot of areas we can hunt and anybody who can hunt should take the oppoturnty to hunt but my point has ben proved where the swine flu came from

That is gruesome and makes me never want to eat meat ever again but, I can't help but question this videos credibility when it says that diseased pigs are killed by slamming them head first onto a concrete floor. I am glad I live in Canada where hormones are not used in at least cattle and where I have fairly easy access to free range meat. Also, I think everyone should watch this especially the parts where you just want to go throw up, thank you for finding this.

I really don't mind, as long as my meat is inspected and statistically pretty safe to eat. Maybe this makes me cold, but oh well.

I am also not so sure a youtube video can really "prove" anything.

I feel I'm sensitive to these issues, but when I can't buy from my butcher (who is in another city) I get the mass market stuff at the grocery store. There just isn't much I can do about it, other than stop eating meat, which would be horrible.

This is my response to the Vent Zone thread:

Regardless of where your meat comes from, you take a risk in eating it, just like anything else. Food is never going to be 100% free of anything harmful, but what little percentage might be in there, probably wouldn't harm you IF you take the necessary precautions to keep that food from being exposed to bacteria.

With that being said, I love meat. I've grown up eating it, and I'm not going to stop because people believe it's wrong. I stopped eating beef once in 7th grade, but that was because the hamburger I bought from the school cafeteria was almost blue. It made me sick, and I should have taken action for it, but I didn't. That incident doesn't make me completely stop eating food that I like. Like I said, you take a risk, and you can either deal with it and enjoy what you're eating, or lose your apatite over what you THINK you're eating, and just... starve. Simple as that.

Agreed, I frankly don't care what it is as long as it's safe to eat and it tastes good.

I've only ever gotten food poisoning twice in my life. One of those times it wasn't even from meat. Vegetables, if not washed or handled properly, can be just as dangerous.

I'll have my burger medium rare, please.

What I find interesting, is that most living things on Earth have to kill other living creatures in order to survive.
Most plants, scavengers, and bottom feeders rely on previously killed living creatures for thier survival.
In order for one organism to live, another must die.

Animals which are slaughtered in giant processing plants, mostly. Occasionally, when I hunt or fish, the meat comes from an animal caught and killed by my own hands.

Well, it's more and more difficult to hunt nowadays, and they always warn us about the quality of the water and the fish that comes out of it. I wouldn't mind raising chickens or what not, but most residential areas don't much care for that sort of thing.

yeh they may not care untill they see what there realy eating but i mean im not gona be a hyprocate just cuz im doing all this im still gona go eat meat but i will protest aginst abuse of animals and slaughter houses there is one moving in my neibor hood and i will be out there every day protestingg

I suppose animal abuse is a problem, but much like the meat itself one is so abstracted from the process that it's hard to feel much of anything about any of its aspects, let alone the animal abuse involved. I have a piece of breast-meat in front of me at the store nicely cleaned, colored, and lighted. I don't live the sort of life where knowing the means of producing that meat is either important or unavoidable.

Human-to-animal cruelty is a problem on a number of levels and entirely apart from whether the animals are eaten.
