Default Winter

Does anyone else just get depressed during winter...like for some unexplained reason? I get like a serious case of cabin fever and just generally depressed in the winter. Anyone else? Any theories on why this is so? I believe it's common, but i honestly don't know...

I hear that its apparently a rather common phemena for people to experience depression during the winter. I'm really uncertain to why this actually is.

I personally don't get depressed by the winter. In fact, I love the winter. Until the 88th snow storm. And then I'm just pissed. The snow gets old after awhile. It requires that salt be put on the roads, which is bad for your car......and then there's the danger of driving in snowy conditions.....and then there's the people who don't know how to drive in snow, so they compensate by going not more than 5 miles per hour even though there is no snow actually accumulating on the ground (just falling from the sky and then melting).

I just like the colder weather. You can always put on more clothes to get warm if you are feeling cold, but with the heat of the summer.........you can only take so much clothing off before it becomes just wrong.....

But, I digress...

I actually love the winter too. I love having an excuse to light a fire, and sip tea. How gay sounding. The snow is awesome, and I always go snowboarding for a couple of weekends in December/January. I'm surprisingly not horrible at it.

It's all in how you perceive things. The Holiday season is both the happiest time of the year and the most depressing, depending on how you look at it. If the situation/event/season whatever makes you unhappy, then find a different way of looking at.

I usually get depressed in the dead of winter, by winter. Jan-March is ust a dull time of year, and it's so cold and it's just depressing. At least from like Nov-Dec. you have like thanksgiving, and xmas, and all the other holiday's others celebrate.

Yeah, but I'm going to have a great winter, and every winter, even if I'm totaly surrounded by friends every minute, I STILL get super depressed. But, I have a spring birthday, and I get my license then, so I will be looking forward to spring!

Yes. Many people suffer from seasonal affective disorder, which is a type of depression that reoccurs every year, often timed to the seasons. My mother has SAD, and uses light therapy etc. to handle it. I have the same kind of feeling, but nothing severe as of yet.

Then there's your answer right there. Don't focus on how winter makes you feel, but think about how excited you will be for spring.

Me living in a suburb outside of Seattle, it get pretty depressing here in the winter quite alot. I know alot of people who have SAD, and who have depression. (Seattle having a big suicide rate?) Me being one of them, my dad tried that light thearpy stuff but I don't really know if it works... he also works graves at the airport so he sees even less sun then us.... but yeah........

I think that is SAD, Seasonal Affectation Disorder. It is a recognised problem.

I find it very depressing, what I really don't like is the way it gets dark so early.

I am aware that I generally feel happier during summer than winter, but probably only because summer is the holiday time, and winter occurs during the middle of the school year.

I have a really weird feeling, like that there are fewer people around in the winter. It feels like half the population is dead all winter long and then when summer comes back they come back alive.

I really don't like winter though. Bleak days and long nights

I love the winter and the fall, and every year look forward to its arrival. However it seems that once fall actually does come I become very reflective and eventually sink into a depression that lasts into winter. I wish I could just enjoy the seasons without these changes...
