I was 16 when I got my first job. 16 is normally the age you can work without too many restrictions in the United States.
For most places just go in and ask if they are hiring or accepting applications. Then fill out the applications and cross your fingers. Job market is in the tank right now.

In Arizona were I am, you can usually get a part time job at Fifteen, but with quite a few restrictions. On the terms of getting a job, usually you can fill out an appllication on paper, or on those nifty little computer things that Walmart and other big department stores frequently has for people to apply. They may, or may not call back, so if your searching to get a job in a certain type of store or field, so try to apply at a few different stores.

Well at 14 ( says you are) You are still a bit too young to get legal work in the US I believe. Most places wont start hiring teens until about 15 or 16. Right now the best bet would be to wait till then or do something like a lawn mowing service.

You get a job by going to a place and saying, "I want a job. What do I need to do?" Usually, you will get a blank look from the acne-covered face of another 16 year old who will then hand you an application. It is important that you realize that finding a job is not as easy as it sounds. You will probably need to fill upwards of 20 or so applications before you even get a single call. Don't let this discourage you. Just keep filling out applications at places. Finally, don't be too selective regarding where you fill out an application. Usually, everyone else wants to work for the "cool" stores just as much as you do. Thus, you are more likely to find your first job at a food supermarket (or even a Mcdonalds) than at an Apple Store.

I'm 17 and have yet to have a job. As in what that thread specified that Shreyas mentioned, the best way to get a job is to basically go into an establishment and ask if they're hiring. Personally, I've gone into about 10-15 different places and have received the same answer each time: No. So good luck, I hope you have better luck than me.

16 is a good age to get first job. most employers wont take you seriously unless you are 16. but at 14 you can get a paper route

Most people are around 16 when they can legally work (at least in the US.) The easiest way to get a job is if you know someone that can get you one. However, you can go into places that you'd like to work and ask if they are hiring. Most places will still give you an application even if they are not hiring at that time. Fill out the application thoroughly, and call the employer after you've turned it in. Many employers would rather have the applicant contact them to show that they truly want the position than trying to hunt someone down.

You go somewhere not too expensive and you ask your parents for money if you have none.

Before I had my job, it was of course mommy to the rescue. As of now, I have two jobs, and it seems to be ME to the rescue, since my paycheck pays for bills around the house, food in the kitchen and gas in the car. It's rather funny how life takes turns for the different. |
