Exclamation Fall Dance Problems...help

So, for my school (an all boys school) hosts a fall dance for sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

This is the dumb situation I let myself get into: I didn't have a date until this morning, when my friend asked me to take his friend. I said okay, and I texted her tonight, ans she is cool with it. Great.

PROBLEM: The group my friend is going with is FULL! His parents said only five couples, and we would amke six! I don't know this girl, and most people she would know at my school, I wouldn't know!

If this doesn't make sense to you, just say so, I will try and explain it better.

Well, she asked me what group we were going with, but I will definitely ask her if she has any friends who are in a group. I would gladly go with her friends, I honestly didn't think about that, guess I'm just self-centered. Thanks.

You two could go with each other or with her friends.

Seriously, if "dating" is occuring here just as the result of a school putting on a dance, schools really, really need to reconsider their reasons for having a dance in the first place.

You summed up the entire problem in one statement: "I didn't have a date until this morning." Meaning, you didn't have any problems related to the dating game until your school decided to put on a dance.

Here's my advice: If you truly were planning on going to the dance with someone from day one, and you are not just dragging someone else along because you were asked to do so........sure, by all means go and have a good time.

But if you are only going because someone "assigned you a date," don't waste your time. Why not just go to the dance by yourself? Perhaps you will find someone else once you get there. Or better yet, since you really had no real reason for going in the first place, why not just stay home?

I agree! I don't want to go! It is exsepnsive, it is long, I can't dance, I've never met this girl, and my only reasoning for going was becasue I thought I was helping out a friend, but look where that got me.

But I have NO IDEA how to say I can't go! I feel terrible, but I am getting stressed out over this.

For the record, I hate school dances

It sounds like you have accurately assessed your situation. So don't go. Tell your friend to get over it.

Why not go by yourselves as a couple instead of with a group? That's how they did it back in the day.

We had a mutual decision that we were thrust into an akward situation, and it would be easier to just not go. I toild her I want her to have fun, and I didn't want her to have to go with a bunch of people she doesn't know.
