UK Only Referendum

UK citizens, are you open to the idea of a merger with the US? As in, England is admitted into the union as a state, Wales is admitted as a state, Northern Ireland and Scotland each become a state. Do you like this idea? It would allow you to become citizens to the most powerful country in the world, and still have ample representation, enjoy your culture, and be protected by American forces, and enjoy our #1 in the world economy. The United States would become the best country in the world by far!

It could never happen, the people would never allow it, and even if the government tried to go ahead with it it would then face revolt from all four home nations; it wouldn't even be a civil war, there wouldn't be enough people for it, it would be a full revolt.

I think we Americans would like it, and it HAS been suggested several times due to our immense cultural and governmental similarity. We are already the closest two countries in the world. And if a world superpower such as China attacked England, it WOULD fall. No doubt about it. America's military and NAVY are vastly superior. The days of the UK as a world power are in the history books.

We have many, many reasons for not wanting to join with the USA. We'd lose our NHS, we'd lose our monarchy, our laws, our currency, our national identity, our school system... it's a terrible idea.

Horrific idea, absolutely terrible. I like being british, and i really dislike a lot of what America stands for. American people are on the whole fine. Yes theres a lot of idiots, but lets face it, the UK has them too.

America is still a bully. Classic case, the event thats happening at the moment with the man with Aspergers who hacked into american government computers to find aliens. America is still putting on the pressure for the UK to hand him over, despite this being a harmless, mentally challenged man just looking for little green men.

You'd make us switch to dollars, and stop using metric measurements. We would have a flood in American shops opening here as well. Worst of all, you'd most likely make us drive on the right in left hand drive cars.

Just because you're bigger, and richer, does not mean we should join you. You sound like Darth Vader asking us to join the dark side. We dont care that we're a smaller country with not as much money.

Also, as you mentioned, we are already close countries. Strong allies who have been helping eachother out for many decades. So if Russia or China etc decided to attack, we'd assume America would help Britain as an act of kindness. You know, Allies protecting eachother and all that.

If you let us keep our currency, national identity, monarch (as head of state and therefore our own government...) and the other things I mentioned we really wouldn't make a good state.

We'd have to throw away centuries of tradition and heritage and culture just to become a member of the USA... which isn't something any of us actually want to do. Would you want the USA to merge with Canada?

A Union of the UK and the US is the next logical step in the evolution of our special relationship. We defended you in WWII as if your land was our own. We LOVE you!
