Default Im going to learn HTML.

Well, I've decided to learn HTML as I have 4 weeks on not a lot to do!

Just wanted to ask a few questions really.

Is it easy for a total novice at programming or anything similar to pick up?

Is it even worth learning?

And just general comments about it would be appreciative!

(Im taking a quick online course now and if I enjoy it Ill defiantly learn it)

I plan on learning Java script after I grasped the basics of this and work my way to higher levels or programming

Ben.

It depends on how quick of a study you are. HTML is really a game of remembering tags and how to properly use them. Another thing you have to catch up on is compatibility.

HTML is used for pretty much only web development. I can think of a few other uses, but it's focused around web development. If you're not interested in web development, more specifically web design, you're not going to use it very often at all. It's a nice language to pick up because if you're on the computer frequently it can come up.

HTML is a markup language, not a programming language. Don't get the two confused. And you might want to pick up CSS while you're at HTML. HTML and CSS go hand in hand most of the time, and it would be useful to know them both.

So would you say its better and easier just go into a programming language if thats what I ultimately want to learn?

If you're interested in programming, then skip the basics of web development. HTML and languages such as C# have absolutely nothing to do with each other. If you don't plan on designing websites or making HTML documents than you really don't need the language.

HTML is very easy, and pretty darn useful to learn. As stated, it's pretty much a case of remembering tags, and closing each statement properly.
You can then build on HTML using CSS scripts, Java, Javascript etc

HTML is a markup language - it has no algorithmic properties. As Sexy said, if you're interested in programming, start wtih something like PHP or C or something. HTML is pretty easy, you don't *really* need to learn it. If you know a few basic tags, you can just wing it by Googling for a reference whenever you need it (that's how I do it anyway ).

Most people just use WYSIWYG editors... HTML died with the dinos...

Only for close markup is it remotely useful.

What do you want to do with your skills?

If you are interested in website design, web development, etc. HTML can be useful to know.

If you are interested in constructing programs, you should study a programming language. Java or Visual Basic are good options for beginners.

He knew she was there by the rapture and the terror that seized on his heart. She was standing talking to a lady at the opposite end of the ground. There was apparently nothing striking either in her dress or her attitude. But for Levin she was as easy to find in that crowd as a rose among nettles.... The place where she stood seemed to him a holy shrine, unapproachable, and there was one moment when he was almost retreating, so overwhelmed was he with terror.... He walked down, for a long while avoiding looking at her as at the sun, but seeing her, as one does the sun, without looking."
