My mother used to force it upon me when I was little, but I don't really know what lotion does. Should I also use it on my face as well?

TOLERANCE - Within reason...
Ummm. You are giving a very broad situation here. There are many different kinds of lotion that serve many different purposes. Specific please?
Haha, like body lotion...? Haha, I didn't even know there were different kinds... I mean I know that it "hydrates" your skin but I never feel or look any different without it.

Well most body lotions are good because they provide your skin with all kinds of vitamins and nutrients.... They take dry and flaky skin cells and replenish them with new moisturized healthy skin cells. They make your skin softer, smoother, healthy, and smell better
They take the place of your body's natural oils in keeping your skin fresh, replenished, and healthy. You see.. naturally we produce our own "lotion", but human lotion (oil) is rather unpleasant to smell, this is why we bathe. Once someone has bathed, they strip their skin of the natural lubricant (oil), so to keep it healthy and smelling fresh we use lotion as a substitute.

You know what they say about it?That it's made from corn, chemically altered, directly linked to hypertension, CVD and liver damage; and effectively causes type II diabetes and obesity?

If it is body lotion then it's not for face. Nothing horrible will happen but if you are going to start using lotions then use it in way they should be used (read what are they for).
Body lotion tends to have more oil in it, leading to an increased incidence of breaking out when used on the face. Lotions made specifically for the face contain little or no oil in them: I personally prefer the ones with just a little oil, but everyone's skin is different.. so it's all about finding what's best for yours.
