    Default Job Dilema

Ive been searching for a job in my town for 4 months without even any call back from anyone place. Now today My friend got me a meeting with the boss of a grocery store to see if I needed me. Well he said I might have the job if they find holes in their schedule arrangement whatever. He told me that Id need to get a haircut. Usualy I would have told this guy to FCK himself and that Wont be doing that but I realy need a job now.

Me and my gf wanna move out next summer..and I need to make savings cuz otherwise I wouldnt realy care about the money.

Now im stuck...I can either turn out the job and try myself a the few places still left. OR get a haircut...look like shit and get a job.

It realy pisses me off as I realy dont have messy or Very long hair. they dont even pass my eyes...And from experience I look total shit with shorter hair.

    Self -Respect VS. Money.

    Idk what to do.
Bad day, looking for a way,
    home, looking for the
    great escape
    .
    Gets in his
    car
    and drives away,
    far from all the
    things
    that we are.
    Puts on a
    smile
    and breathes it in
and breathes it out, he says,
bye bye bye to all of the
    noise.

Your situation is an impossible one, and I do feel your pain. At this point only you know what your priorities are in life, and you have to ask yourself if you cannot get a job in your current state of attire and grooming, then you either have to push back your moving in with your girlfriend or make some sacrifices. In this economy a lot of folks are making tough decisions, and there are quite a few folks who are pretty well educated who are doing jobs which they would never have done during the good economic times. While I am not saying that you should ever sacrifice your self respect you have to ask yourself is your hair truly that important to you much as it was to Samson in the Bible? If your hair is part of your basic identity and trimming it would greatly affect your self worth and self esteem, then don't even go down the route of applying for jobs which would require you to change. However, if you can be flexible and trim your hair, then you might find more jobs would open up for you. The sad fact is that you are facing a tonne of competition nowadays, and if you do not adapt to your peers, then an employer which you seek might just as well hire someone else who fits their needs as opposed to one who might not.

In short, you have to evaluate your overall financial situation and your needs. If money is an absolute necessity right now, then you probably should cut your hair to get your foot in the door. However, if you would hate yourself for cutting your hair and can afford to be unemployed for a while longer, then be patient. Also, you should come up with a Plan B with regards to moving in with your girlfriend and perhaps anticipate delays if you cannot get gainful employment with adequete wages to build up a savings reserve.

Well thanks for the reply , its been realy usefull. I dont feel it will totaly ruin me and I guess its not that much of a big deal ...But still its gonna be hard for me to accept it. But I cant risk not finding a job. My gf Is already making so much for this to work and I need to make my part to.

Il let them grow back when I move out I guess.

I believe you are making a sound financial decision by temporarily sacrificing your hairstyle for this job. However, out of curiousity, is trimming your hair really a requirement for the job in question? I do not know how things work up in Canada, but at grocery stores in my area in the United States I have seen plenty of guys with longer hair. I have seen them wear hair nets if they work in the bakery or by any of the fresh meat counters, but those guys who do stocking and pull in shopping carts have all sorts of hair styles. I would check with the employer directly to see what exactly their policies are about personal grooming, and I would look at your friend's employee handbook assuming you are trying out for a position at the same store.

There is no dignity in willingly choosing to be poor because you won't not look like a slob. I would be very shocked if you told me that the manager was making you lose a normal looking haircut and grow a mohawk.........

You can't claim to have any real self-respect if you refuse to make money.

That's nice.. Even though you've lost your hairstyle, I'm pretty sure that you'd be used to it.. Just keep up the good working habits..
