Who is considering getting the H1N1 vaccine?

They are offering it at my school next week, but my mom (a pharmacist) says she is reluctant to give me permission, as she thinks it is too experimental.

Any thoughts or nice little tidbits of information?

For the sole fact that the traditional Flu is more deadly than Swine Flu, I have no intention of getting the shot. I would agree with your mom - I think it's probably too experimental.

That's flat-out not true. The main risk with the H1N1 vaccine, as with the seasonal flu vaccine, is Guillain-Barré syndrome, which can cause temporary paralysis and is in some cases fatal. While there is a risk with the H1N1 vaccine, an individual's risk of major problems is higher by being unvaccinated.

Although I work in an ER, I won't get it. I've been around swine/H1N1 patients all the time, I'm fairly sure I got it already since it's not hitting me (you get immune after having it once). I'd recommend the vaccine for people at risk for further complications from the flu, such as pregnant women and people with asthma or other underlying medical conditions, though. Otherwise it's all your choice. But I agree with the doctors that I work with; this swine flu crap was over publicized by the media.

Make a scene and refuse. Even though you don't have any legal standing, you can still make their life very hard and protest. If it were me, I'd tell whoever was injecting me with it to go fuck themselves with the needle and I'd walk out.

I just had a doctors appointment today for a well exam, and my pediatrician didn't have it yet, but told us that she isn't recommending it for kids. I did get the other one though. My arm still hurts!

My doctor's have twisted my arm into getting it. Though, i'd have to say i'm one of those "at-risk" muddafuckas.

I think it's largely unnecessary for the general populace. Most of you guys can take the flu easily. Start feeling sick, see your doctor, get prescribed Tamaflu, and in 3-4 days you're back on your feet and immune.

they're free at my school, I still don't want it, but I might go for it...maybe. Adolecents are supposedly at higher risk.

And I have seen it spread like wildfire throughout my high school, other high schools, and especially local universities.
