    Default Indecisiveness

I'm a getting a little annoyed about changing my mind on what career I want to pursue every week or so I decided to keep a list now, stating what careers I'd like to pursue. So first it was a career in Medicine, general practitioner. Then it was a surgeon, then back to G.P., and now I want to be a Biochemist It's almost set in stone that I'm going to be some type of scientist. At least I know that

So here's the question, have you ever changed your mind about wanting to pursue a specific career?

Yes, and you're 14... you have plenty of time Jorge . Since you have an idea, pursue a lot of science classes in High School, my school offers several Bio classes, a human anatomy, and Science Research, where you go and work with a scientist of some kind, look for those courses.

It is quite normal to want to change one's mind with regards to careers, but at least all of your career options seem to be related and are basically in one area. Consider yourself fortunate as some folks out there are all over the map whereas you are more or less concentrated in the biology sector.

My recommendation is to move from the theory to practice and volunteer in a hospital once per week and shadow doctors who may interest you. Not only will you be helping out those in need but you will also get valuable experience as well as see how the medical profession operates in real life.

Also, if there is a local university in your area they sometimes have mentor programmes for kids of your age where you can get to know a biochemistry student. I would see if you can hang out with a biology teacher and help out in the lab as getting to know him/her might give you contacts into the science fields.

In short, I think you are old enough to start venturing out and being with folks involved in a particular field as at least you seem pretty focused on the area of your study.

I am pretty much permanantly changing mine. At least yours are within a specific field, so you could go into medicine before specialising, or even do a biosciences/biochemistry degree and then move after two years to something more specific.

Mine changes from bioscience to psychology to biopsychology to medicine to business. I have to make uni choices in the next few months and I don't have a clue :/

now I want to be a Biochemist It's almost set in stone that I'm going to be some type of scientist.
Hell yeah. My friend just graduated with his undergrad in bio chemistry. Two weeks later, he landed a $65,000 per year job working for a chemical company.

Chemists are somewhat of a rare breed. It's a very difficult major to work through at college. One of the biggest reasons I picked Chemistry as my major was because of it's difficulty. I am not a smart person, but I love a good fight. Chemistry is that war. And I will win it. All the way to the end of a doctorate. Or I will die trying.

My advice to you is to keep dreaming about what you would like to do. As other people have already mentioned, you have a bit of time before you need to make up your mind. The important thing is that you eventually pick a field of study that you are genuinely passionate about --- regardless of what it is. Only then, will you have the best chances of being fully successfully with it.

I would rather be a failure at what I love, than a success at what I hate..
    Chemistry: Matter, you cheap whore.
    Chemistry: True substance abuse.

Wow, your 14. Dont worry about it. The great thing about life is you can do whatever you want, dont feel bad about having a variety of ideas of what you want to do. Most 14 year olds are not even thinking about careers, hell neither are a lot of 19 year olds! You waaay ahead of the game.

Most people in their adult lives have multiple careers, so dont worry, when it comes to needing to make decisions just follow what your interested in at that time. Because thats all you can ever really do. My older brother's friend wanted to become a chef, but after cooking school he realized he wanted to be a writer, and now he works as a writer for a cooking magazine.

Dont worry about not keeping you interests confined to a single career path, hardly anyone does.
