Those places are just awful, awful places. Kids hopped up on a load of drugs because they can't legally drink....I have heard nothing good, and I know none by name.

Well, if you'll be 18 by the time you head to Quebec in the spring, you can go to a regular club since the drinking age there is 18.
I have to agree with Max though. Anything I've ever heard about under age clubs has been that they are awful, dirty places filled with slutty little girls (ie. NOT people just under drinking age, but people way under drinking age). The only one I know of by name is "ICE" which is about 30 minutes North of Toronto.

Some friends dragged me to some underage clubs when I was in Toronto. I never went to them in Seattle and for very good reason. I've never seen more 15-year-old girls dressed like hookers. Yuck.

It's like a club that is usually serving alcohol but they have special nights whre the under 21 crowd (in canada's case lower becasue they can drink legally younger there) can party.
Around here there are 2 kinds...
1) Doesn't serve alcohol at all, so there's no age limit to get in
2) Serves alcohol but has some sort of system to allow minors in (either wristbands, or a dedicated drinking area, ect)
The reason they tend to be filled with slutty little ones are that the ones who are old enough to drink go to "real" bars/clubs, the ones who are close find other ways of partying, and the little ones slut themselves out and pretend to be adults by going to these clubs.
To the OP, if you're looking for a good night out in Toronto or Montreal, see what all ages concerts are on while you're in town. Not quite the same as a club, but if you find a band you like playing an all ages show, they can be a lot less sketchy.

Or of course try to scalp tickets to the Maple Leafs or Canadians (it will be in late March that I should be coming up).

Are there any areas to avoid for my safety in Toronto? I heard that the subways are very clean and safe but are there any areas to avoid (someone told me around the old Maple Leaf Gardens is iffy at best for someone my age (17)
I don't frequent Toronto THAT often, and when I do, I stick to the downtown area, where I've always felt generally safe even being down there with friends at the age of 16. There are of course neighbourhoods that are rougher, but if you stick to the heart of the city, where there are always lots of people around, you'll probably be generally ok.
There are other members kicking around here that live in the city that might be able to answer that question better.

Im from Toronto Ontario and as an underage 17 year old living in the suburbs I've been to these clubs and they kinda are garbage.
As for your safety stick to downtown Toronto you should be good, if your in the suburbs like Woodbridge, Vaughan, Bolton, Markham you should be find, but some cities like Mississauga and Brampton actually have the odd incident but its generally safe. Alot of parts of Toronto have sketchy areas for a young girl to be at night(not that alot of bad stuff happens but people do get killed) is like Moss Park, the Annex, Black Creek, Scarborough, Teesdale, even North York. Not to alarm you but I once got robbed by a hobo outside of a movie theatre on young street downtown North York and then in the same night I got chased by a group of homeless kids who tried to rob me and my frineds but these cops showed up before they could do anything, and the same night someone got shot at the condominuim complex we were staying at(my friends house), and all of this took place like in a generally safe area it was Downtown North York(North Park of Toronto, Torontos original name was York) and this area is not a bad area its really korean so I wouldn't expect alot of crime because its tight nit community but w.e that all happened within hours of eachother.
I pretty much only feel uneasy walking near Moss Park, Walking in the 400's in Mississauga, Walking in Rexdale, and Walking in Black Creek

Black Creek is fine. It's not Lampton but it is better than Lakeshore Village by leaps. The vast parts of North York and Scarborough like all the subcities are as well. It's not so much the subcitiy (which includes hundreds of thousands of people and dozens of towns and hundreds of neighbourhoods) or even the town (which can have good and bad parts). It's just good common sense to take reasonable precautions if you're not used to being in a big city but I don't think there's any particular need to fear these vast areas
