Cool Malaysia's #1 singer is no longer single

Malaysia's #1 singer, Sii Nurhaliza married to a businessman, Datuk Khalid Muhammad Jiwa aka Datuk K. Siti Nurhaliza is now Datin Siti Nurhaliza.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian pop diva Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, 27, ended her single days today (Aug 21, 2006) with a promise that she will not quit singing. "I will not quit singing. But I will cut down my singing engagements to balance my career and my new responsibilities as a wife," she told reporters after her formal Malay marriage ceremony at the Federal Territory Mosque on Jalan Duta.
Siti married businessman Datuk Khalid Mohamad Jiwa, 47, whom she fell head over heels with after her London's Royal Albert Hall performance in April last year.
Her wedding is considered as Wedding of the Year, with the cost of the wedding reception this August 28th aproximately half a million Ringgit (USD140,000)

TV3, Malaysia's #1 commercial TV station made the coverage at her marriage ceremony live, another one this August 28th in KLCC and delayed telecast at Siti's hometown. Siti's wedding is kinda like reality TV show.

Can you help us out a little with Malay names? Don't the surnames appear first?

Are the words Datuk and Datin related?

Datuk and Datin are titles for both men and women. They are granted based one one's deeds to the state or country, granted by the ruler. If a man gets the title Datuk, then the wife gets Datin. But if a woman gets Datuk, then there's no title for the husband. The Datuk community considered as high class and rich. The highest title is Tun.

Malay names are usually derrived from Arabic words and such. We sometimes write with Bin or Binti for female. Osama Bin Laden for example is a common name. Osama is his first name while Laden is his father's name or the last name. Bin is where we see his sex which is male. Malay names usually have more than one word for the first name. Like myself: Mohamad Zulhelmi.

Call it cynicism, but female celebrities always seem to marry rich businessmen...

The age difference is like 20 years , I didn't bother to watch it on local TV. My friend says he gives em a year before they end it. Not to be cynical.

Datuk is a title conferred upon a person by the King or Sultan of Malaysia, I can't remember which. It is usually done on their Birthday, so it is known as the Birthday Honors. My Uncle's Father recently got conferred a Datuk this month, so it makes two with the title in the family (My uncle and his Father). It is usually given a gesture of recognition, for someone who has done good work for the country, etc. But most of the time, yes, they are rather rich.

Well, considering it is the main method of generating income for the Malay Sultanates, it is only for the rich and powerful. My grandfather was offered a Datuk-ship for $10,000
