Default Posing for Life Drawing Class

    *Ads Disappear After 100 Posts*
I'm thinking of applying for a job as a model for life drawing art classes at my college for next semester. Of course that means posing nude for the class and having to hold a pose for several minutes at a time. I was wondering if anyone here has had experience as an art model or knows someone who did and could give me some info about what it's really like? Also if anyone has some thoughts or opinions on it that would be appreciated too.

To the Mods I hope this is the appropriate section for this question.

Try not to get aroused? Unless the pose calls for that

Justin I don't think they'd ever want an aroused model. I have heard that does happen to some of the male models by accident.

From what i've heard about it it isn't easy, apart from boredom and tolerance needed to sit there for potentially hours on end for not much pay, i heard that in many cases models can be looked down upon by the art people, "objects not people" sorta thing.

Then again if you're in a more relaxed environment and not having to pose for hour after hour it can probably be more enjoyable i'd imagine.

practice on your poses - including facial expressions and holding them for hours?
gain confidence to go on nude in front of a class?
    good luck!
    cruelty!

I've done it once before...good money actually. I went and modeled unclad (nude)
and walked in to the room of freshman with a robe on then i got in at least the basic position for my pose then I took the robe off stood there for an hour and got paid nicely. It's bad when you realize that what you are doing is simply ART not sex.

Actually wouldn't you also want to work on holding still and working the muscles you are posing with, because it is probably very strenuous to hold a difficult pose for a long time

JD may I ask if you're male or female? Why did you only model once? Did you do many poses during the hour and get some break times? Were the students mature about having a nude model? Thanks for any info about the job you can give me.

Male and I'm in college, I was there for 2 hours and got a break when I needed it but thankfully I was in a comfy position so it really wasn't necessary but I took a two 5 min breaks to get blood flow going. the students were professional and just drew no comments smirks or judgment came out it was just art. I only did it once because its on a need be basis and they have a lot of people and I was only needed for the once time, it was a saturday free draw with about 20-25 ppl

We had to make do with mannequins when drawing still life for GCSE Art, apparently only the people doing Art for A Levels in sixth form got actual naked people.

Sixth form is usually anything from 16-19 years old.

I'd imagine the hardest part would simply be standing still for so long
