The official language in China is Mandarin, spoken by close to 700,000,000 people. There are also various dialects across China the 2 largest being Cantonese and the dialect used in the Shanghai area. The dialects are som different that often people from the Beijing area cannot understand people from the Shanghai area.
I believe China is officially atheist, but people practice daoism, buddhism, islam, christianity etc. Of the temples I saw there most were Buddhist or Daoist.
Under a communist government, the official religion is atheism. Since the government is the highest power. But correct me if im wrong.

each province has its own dialect, unintelligable to other provinces, cantonese being the dialect of canton , hokkien (min) as Fujian's . chaozhou as ChaoZhou's dialect and many many others...
Most of the people in China speak their dialects, and Mandarin and is widely spoken in Shanghai, Beijing(Beijing Mandarin) the southern part of China.

A communist country should theoretically be atheist, but China isn't communist in any sence of the word. They are more capitalist than communist.
ok, they are still "officiailly" atheist, and that is a fact, check the CIA factbook or whatever.
