I love Godsmack.... would that count, at all in any sub-genre?

Nu-metal is the closest you could get... but seeing as they're more of a straight up rock band and nu-metal isn't metal... They don't count.

Progressive death and metalcore are ace as well and nu-metal isn't bad.

Black and melodic death for me. Also, I saw technical and brutal weren't up there, aren't they sub-genres, too? Because I would've also voted for them.

I probably listen to death metal about 60 percent of the time now.

Thrash metal makes up about 30 percent and black metal the remaining 10 percent.

But it changes based on the seasons

Heavy (trad.) metal is in there occasionally but nothing major.

I voted on this poll a while ago. I voted death, thrash, power, and speed, but I also do like some symphonic and am not that much into death anymore.
Also, wouldn't early Metallica and early Megadeth be thrash? Well...especially the Kill Em All album.

(the poll is missing some stuff like classic metal, btw)

I had to choose all of them but in a normal day I usually listen to Slipknot, System, Deftones and stuff but when I'm possessed I like Black Metal like Dimmu Borgir Dark Funeral, Gorgoroth and when I'm in a aggressive mood I like dead metal like Cannibal Corpse and when I'm in a headbanging mood I like Slayer and stuff

If I had to choose between those, I'd go with black metal. I'm extremely picky when it comes to metal, so there are only a handful of those bands that I listen to. I really love Protest The Hero, which is kind of a prog metal/metalcore band.

I think metal is best when it's fused with conventions from other genres. Take a look at groove metal or metal that is mixed with rock. Anyway, it's getting a lot harder to define genres.

I agree completely. I roll my eyes at elitists who try to classify everything so particularly, Bodom being a prime example. Nobody really knows what they are because they do so many different things.

What the hell is this? I like metalcore too, the good kind (stuff like Converge and Botch).

Also why is Morbid Angel labeled under thrash? They're death metal.

I'd forgotten how outdated and incomplete this poll is. I'll make a new one shortly.

Also, is war metal a thing? I've heard of a lot of weird genres but never that.
