Out of interest do you fly a plane or helicopter and is it expensive?

Umm, of course you can, you can have a pilot license in any country in the world, much like a driver's license - I've had one for the last 5 years.

Neat, a Tripacer, they're old enough to be considered classics now!

    Ha, awesome.

I too have a passion for flying, I was 13 when I started taking lessons. Where I lived it cost around 500 I think. I also bought a throttle and yoke controller for my computer, and got a free "legal" copy of Flight Simulator X Gold.

It costs about $17,000 (New Zealand dollars) here to do a private pilot license, which includes everything (medicals, theory exams etc. in addition to the actual flying lessons) but it depends somewhat on the ability of the student - some people take a bit longer than others which obviously adds to the cost. Most people spread the flying out over a period of time (say, one lesson a week) to help reduce the capital outlay required. A lesson will generally cost about $230.00 approximately but it depends a lot on where you are, what you fly and so on. If you own your own aircraft the per hour cost of flying reduces considerably, but obviously that also requires quite a large investment to begin with, and even a cheap aeroplane is a lot more expensive to maintain than a car.

Helicopters are considerably more expensive than fixed wing.
