Default Can't hear out of one ear well.

    *Ads Disappear After 100 Posts*
It's only been like this for a few days.

It almost feels like I have water in my ear, but all day long. When I tilt my head either way it goes away and I can hear fine, but when it's upright it's hard to hear. I keep my ears pretty clean, and that's one of the first things I checked out.

So - do you think it's worth seeing a Doctor about, or should I just wait a few more days and see if it goes away?

    I'm guessing no recent swimming.

You state you keep them clean... with... cotton swabs? If so, it's still possible to have cerumen (wax) build up pushed in there. I had similar symptoms, and the PA where I work told me to use Debrox drops to remove the wax, and it worked. It does cost a little under ten bucks, though.

Here’s to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward. Maybe they have to be crazy. How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that's never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels? While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that do.

You're right about the swimming and cotton swabs.
I'll go see if the Pharmacy has those drops tomorrow; if 10$ saves me a trip to the hospital it's a good investment to me.

    Thanks.

Listen and listen good I had the same problem and my pediatrition told me to wait a few days and now I have hearing loss in my left ear. I got to an audiologist and they brought my hearing back 3/4 way. If you get to an ear specialist fast enough they can bring it back almost completly.

I would say that you should try to clean your ear with a Cue-Tip, if the problem persists, see the doctor... it may be serious as Baseball13 said.

So, I took the drops Jorge recommended; no improvement - but it hurts when I put pressure near my ear or stick a Q-tip in it; so I'm gonna swing by the doctor and see if it's anything serious like Baseball13 said.

    You got me scared :/

It could be an ear infection; I doubt it's anything serious unless you've had injury / extreme loud noises to it recently.

I would continue using the drops just in case; and might as well give them both a good cleaning for the price.

Mine didn't hurt when I pressed near the ear, however, it did make it go completely deaf by pressing around the ear. Pain usually indicates an ear infection; they can get pretty painful overtime. A doctor would prescribe you antibiotics for that.

Do you hear a ringing in your ear, or feel cracking in your ear? If you do, then there is something definitly blockinh your ear. BTW a doctor probably won't give you antibiotics for an ear infection for fear that the infection will become resisitant to the medication. So, if you aren't completely deaf from this one year, you probably won't get any meds.

Every now and again one or both of my ears block up and I get horrible tinnitus. Even though I clean them out, wax still builds up. It's a fairly fast and simple procedure to have your ears washed out by a GP.

What you could have also done is pressed too hard with the Q-tip and pushed wax into your ear drum. I have had very bad ear infections in the past - and they don't go away.

I think a trip to the doctor to clear things up would be good.

I have had the very problem you have had, and you really should see a doctor about your issue. There could be a chance that your eutashion tube, which I think connects the middle ear to the throat, might be blocked thus causing the fluid build up. Just make sure your nose is not blocked as that might be the culprit of your problem. The worst thing you can do is stick a Q-Tip (cotton swabs to our non-American friends) in your ear as the cotton swab can rub away the lining of the inner ear. Trust me, I have done that, and it is not pleasant getting an ear infection as a result.

Dolphus is totally right that you should start with the use of Debrox (or its generic equivalent) and use an ear syringe (not an actual syringe but the one that comes with the Debrox bottle) to clean out your ears. However, you don't want to totally get rid of all the wax in your ear as you need some. As a result, see your doctor or school nurse to figure out what is in your ear and if it needs to be cleaned. They will need to use an otoscope to figure out what is going on as you don't want to be cleaning something that is actually fine.

    I hope you get better.

    Definitely see a doctor.

I had the same thing in my left ear, the three bones were partly eaten away and I was going deaf. I had surgery to replace the bones and build a new eardrum, but it only partly restored my hearing so I have to use a hearing aid in the left ear.

Oh, and don't try to clean your ears with a Qtip - it just wads the stuff against your eardrum.

It sucks dude, I was also born with no hearing in my right ear at all; and I can't wear a hearing aid because there is no sound to magnify.
