    Default Top Movie Competition

    *Ads Disappear After 100 Posts*
We are making this month long competition for what our members find as the best movies of all time. The list will be put together by me as per the submissions I get through PM. I personally will not have any votes in this so I will not skew the results in any way.

    • Make a list of your 25 favorite films of all time, put them in a numerical descending order and send it to me as a PM. DO NOT POST your lists on this thread, so when the results are presented, to be more interesting.

    • The lists must be in the (obvious) format:
    1. Saw <-- Your top favorite
    2. …
    3. …

    23. …
    24. …
    25. Twilight <-- Your least favorite (of the 50)

    • Every #1 takes 25 points, every #2 takes 24 and so forth.

IMPORTANT: The choosing and ranking criteria for each one are STRICTLY PERSONAL. Remember, no one has better or worse taste in films, just different. Which means that not everyone has to vote for the films “considered the greatest ever”, but his/her favorite ones. This is done to avoid unnecessary conflicts over the results.

    • For those who are bored, or simply haven’t seen enough movies, you will be able to submit lists with fewer than 25 films. However, you should notice that in this case, your #1 won’t take 25 points, but the amount of movies you’ve sent, instead. For example, I send a list with 18 movies, so my #1 takes 18 points, my #2 takes 17 and so forth. This is done to be fair towards members who put more effort into making their lists and/or have watched many more movies.

    • Do not consider that I have seen every single existing film. For well known movies (Schindler’s List, Goodfellas, Requiem for a Dream, etc.), the title is enough; but for lesser known ones it would be wise to include IMDb link, so it’ll be easier for me.

    • Everything that is registered as a movie on IMDb is eligible for nomination. Which means you can vote for animated films, documentaries, TV and direct-to-DVD movies, but not for mini-series and TV shows.

    • All submittions must be in by March 1st at midnight EST.

    • After the time limit expires, the 100 films that took the most points will make the Top 100 Movies of all Time, and will be presented in a countdown-like style from bottom to top.

TIP: In case you don’t remember much movies or you have forgotten about some very good you’ve seen, you can check out the IMDb Top 250.

TIP: I would suggest you (in order to make it easier) to make a quick selection of about 30-40 films you really like, on Notepad. From here, you can start ranking the very first ones and filter those you think are worthy of being in the Top 25. At least, that’s what I’m going to do.

Last, BUT NOT LEAST, we need the participation of at least 20-25 members, so there are NOT going to be films in the Top 100 voted by just one member, which means less controversy over the results; I don’t think it’s gonna be worthy with less than 20 participants. So, if you like the whole thing and you’re going to submit a list, I would appreciate it if you suggested it to other members on the forum, so they see and vote, as well.

Remember that your list will NOT be counted unless it is submitted to me (Eric) via PM.
Your movies are worth more points if you submit a full list of 25 so keep that in mind.

If you have any questions please ask them below.

Edit: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part one and two are counted as the same movie so you can only have that in one spot. No voting for both part one and two.

Special thanks to kaizer for this idea.

    Awesome.

However, 25 films seem very few to me, I'll have to cut a lot down.
And I don't get why you won't vote, as long as you select your preferences.

    Anyway, come on people, vote!

How do we list movies that are series? Like LOTR or Harry Potter, etc.

I'd suggest one by one... Because some people may like only one film out of the whole trilogy.

yeah, movies that are a series are still separate films and need to be listed as such, even if more than one makes it into your top 25-----some people love every harry potter movie, some hate all of them except 1 or 2, for example

    They should be separate.
There's an enormous difference for example, between Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan <3 and Star Trek V: The Final Frontier .
And in another sci-fi series, The Empire Strikes Back is clearly the best of the Star Wars films. And while I'm not down on the prequels the way some people are, I think that Ep. I is simply okay rather than great.
It wouldn't be right to lump films together as one any more than it would be to assume that all siblings in a family are the same just because they have the same parents.

We are voting for films rather than franchises. Perhaps some future competition could specifically cover that.

Yeah movies in series are counted separately. I meant to state that in the first post.

Calling Episode 1 "okay" is being quite generous. It's one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I'll start making my list now. This will be quite challenging.

Also, any film that's been remade, you need to specify the year of release or a link to it in IMDB to tie it down to which version you are voting for.

I'm finding this really difficult. May take a while for answers to come in, it's not easy.
