    Default Passwords hacked

    *Ads Disappear After 100 Posts*
Just been chatting on msn, suddenly I get emails saying my Facebook password has been changed, and then my hotmail password was also changed. Managed to reset the hotmail password, and am trying to get the Facebook back.

Question is, what is the most likely cause of this happening? And how do I fix it? If it's a virus recording data, I also put bank details into a system yesterday, so am mildly stressed out right now.

I honestly don't know, I've never had it happen to me, so I've never had to research it :-/ When I get back from picking up my brother, I'll research it for you though!

My diary, it's not actually about cranes.
How'd you manage to stab yourself in the back?
How'd you get your arms to bend back like that?
Got a suggestion for CS&T? Let me know!

Your best bet is to change your password to something from a random password generator. The same thing happened to me - someone logging in from South Korea or something.

It could have been a phishing scam that got your email one and reset your password. I would change your email one first then the facebook one.

So, got back onto Facebook too, running a bajillion scans and nothing is coming up, but, just got another email from Facebook:
You recently requested a download of your information on Facebook. Your download has been generated and is now ready. Please follow the link below to download it. Remember that this file contains sensitive information. Because this download contains your profile information, you should keep it secure and take precautions when storing, sending or uploading it to any other services.
Wtf? So, someone accesses my Hotmail, changes my password, acceses my Facebook, changes the password, then requests a download of all my Facebook information?

Just recovered my deleted emails in Hotmail, found the missing Facebook password change emails, the fucker:

Your password was changed from the following location:
Lytham St Annes, ENG, GB (IP=92.16.97.190)

    Thanks,
    The Facebook Team

    It's identity theft, bro!

It seems like someone managed to reset your password somehow by either guessing it or knowing the answers for the security questions, so I would suggest you to change your passwords and security questions and that's probably all you can do.

Looking at it, the security question was ridiculously easy (who knew "London" wasn't a secure answer), so have changed that, and I'm hoping that's how it happened, because full AVG, Malware Bites, MSE, and Spybot scans haven't found anything on the computer.

    I seriously want to...

I am also paranoid about what else has been accessed, but as far as I can make out, it was done purely to get my Facebook information, which... doesn't make any sense?

It makes perfect sense. The crackers want your information to sell it to those individuals that pay top dollar for it.
What they do is resell it or use it to stalk you.

    Nevermind apparently you can.
But I would change your security question to something less hard to guess.

Do you have any enemies? This sounds like a classic case of social engineering. I'm saying this because there really isn't much of a reason to hack someone's Facebook unless you hate the guy's guts. This hypothesis is supported by the fact that the guy logged in from Great Britain meaning he lives close to you. That is, unless he's using a proxy, which is unlikely.

Secure your email account. It is trivial to gain access to someone's Facebook once you have the email account. Choose a security question only you would know. I use phone verification on my Gmail account but I don't know if Hotmail supports that.

No, this is stupid. Facebook doesn't store enough information to be useful for identity theft. They'd get his name, address, and phone number at the most. This is almost certainly someone who hacked the OP's facebook for personal reasons.

Bingo. That information can be worth a lot.
Yes, it could be for personal reasons as well -- I'm not ruling that out -- although it would be slightly more difficult [in guessing passwords].
