Default Memory stick won't play AVI

    *Ads Disappear After 100 Posts*
I have an HDTV on which I watch my favorite TV shows/movies in AVI format through the USB slot. I put my video file on the memory stick, insert it into the USB port of the TV, and watch.

I bought a new 32 GB memory stick, but for some reason it won't play AVI files. What's up with this? My older, smaller capacity memory stick does play AVI files, but not this larger, newer stick. Is there anyway I can make AVI files work? If not, does converting from AVI to MPG format (the stick does play MPG format) lead to a loss in picture/sound quality?

And if converting is the only way to make it work, recommend some converters please.

I think I possibly know why. The smaller one is most likely formatted using the FAT32 file system, so the HDTV has no problem reading it. The 32GB one is mostly likely formatted as NTFS, since FAT32 was never able to support hard disk or other devices of that capacity. FAT32 only supports a maximum capacity of 4GB

Actually, I think I got that confused. 4gb is the maximum size that a file can be if the filesystem is FAT32, not the maximum disk capacity for FAT32

The files I'm trying to play are definitely under 4 GB.

Try using a different format perhaps, erm, formating format, not video format

Correct. You can't format a FAT32 volume larger than 4gb.

To the OP - It could be that the flash memory in the drive itself just isn't quick enough to cope. Try it on another computer, if it does the same thing, that'll be what it is. Not much you can do really.

remember guys, AVI is a container, not a codec or a "format". Meaning that the video could use a codec that the TV is unable to use aswell.

What codec does your TV support?

When you say the smaller one will play videos, but the larger wont? Do you mean the same videos? Do the same videos play on the smaller one but not on the larger one?
