I've noticed the occasional misconception on what is allowed, and what is not allowed in these forums. Here are a few clarifications.

Illegal Software/Hardware Discussions
- Discussion of copyrighted ROMs, warez, no-CD patches, cracks, cheating in online games, and "gray-area" items such as mod chips and CD burners that bypass copyright protection are not allowed. Discussion of such items will result in a PM message sent to you from a GovTeen moderator. After that warnings will be issued.

- Asking or providing such items, in any way, shape or form, will result in a warning . This includes asking for such information to be sent to you via an external source such as e-mail, IM, or private message.

- Emulation and emulators are fine. Home brew ROMs are fine. Linking to emulators that also contain commercial ROMs and other copyrighted material is bad. This includes Playstation BIOS files.

Flaming, Trolling & Offensive Posting
- Don't flame and insult other users. Let's try to keep these forums civil. Pretty basic rule. Try to keep

- Don't troll other users and groups. Making a post saying "Macs suck", with no arguments to back up your beliefs would be considered trolling. The same goes with saying "Nintendo sucks", "PCs suck", "Microsoft sucks", etc. A well-defended and well-thought out opinion is never a troll.

- It's rarely a problem, but let's try to keep bad language down. One can certainly express themselves just fine without saying "fuck" every other word. Let's try not to throw out racial and sexual preference slurs around as well.

Spamming and other disruptive posting
- As many people will tell you, I don't like spam. Feel free to link to a site as long as an actual conversation pertaining to the site is going to occur or the site contains useful information pertaining to the topic.

- Please don't bump 6 month old topics unless it's neccesary. If they've been dead for a long time, their's probably a good reason for it.

- Posting in all caps is quite annoying. If you typed an entire post and than notice the post was in all caps accidentally, feel free to use the Decapitaliser found here: http://forums.govteen.com/warn_decap.php (it's quite the handy tool)

- If you link to any Kings of Chaos or Outwar type sites, you will die. Don't tempt me.

That pretty much sums up the rules for these forums. If you have any questions/comments, feel free to post them here, send one of your friendly and loveable mods a PM, or catch one of us online via some other method.

Oh, and one other thing: Feel free to use the "Report this post to a moderator" link. It makes our job easier, honest!

Please note that any off-topic replies in this post will be removed without warning. If you don't have anything constructive to ask or say regarding the rules, please don't say anything.

I would like to add that if you are unsure of anything you are about to post DONT POST IT or pm one of the moderators and check first.

Thanks.

or is the discussion of Roms and Warez just not legally allowed on any forums?

The rule goes for all forums on GovTeen.

Why is discussion of mod-chips not allowed? Why is it a gray area? If you own whatever it is you're modding, it is perfectly legal.

Threads asking for constructive criticism on a personal or other webpage are fine, but begging for visitors, at the discretion of the moderators, will henceforth not be tolerated.

I'm guessing we aren't allowed to talk about illegal music sites either. Ex- limewire, kazza

Well, technically the programs themselves aren't illegal, unless you're downloading copyrighted stuff.

Surprise! FIlesharing programs can be easily used for legitimate purposes. However, they're (some would say more) frequently used for illegal purposes, as well. Take BitTorrent, for example. It's a great tool for downloading large files (like ISOs), but some other people use it to share music illictly.
