Kenyans sue over 'mass rape'

Hundreds of Kenyan tribeswomen launched a £20million lawsuit against the British Army yesterday, claiming they were gangraped by soldiers in attacks spanning nearly four decades. One women who claimed she had been raped 25 years ago, gave birth to a mixed-race son.
Surely our army shouldnt be doing such things?

ok, it is more than likely true and maybe we should actually consider what measures should be taken to prevent such a thing happening again because it is not accpetable in any shape or form. Apparently many of the rapes occured as a result of the soldiers being drunk. Is the British Army in need of reform?

Well, Son of Ulster said hundreds were raped. An example would be set to indisciplined soldiers. And would you say the same if hundreds, or even a few, American girls were raped and impregnated by British soldiers visiting the states and were never disciplined?

Maybe you should care. If true, 40 years of unpunished rape against tribes is appalling. The army did some absolutely horrendous things in my country during its troubles too for which noone has ever been punished. The army needs reform, particularly to stop its internal bullying and to halt these suicides.

Firstly, I do not like the IRA. I agree that they did terrible, unjustifiable things. Yes in part, I am talking about Bloody sunday. Should the British army, there to keep the peace, stoop to revenge? And a revenge, not against IRA men but against civilians demonstrating for basic civil rights? I think not. No action was taken against any of the soldiers, in fact those in command were decorated and congratulated for their massacre. But there are many other things the army did during that time. Here's one, not very well known example: July the 9th 1972. During this period there was some heavy rioting in areas of Belfast. British snipers were deployed. In one street, a 13 year old Catholic school girl was shot by an army sniper. A local priest, who was going around the area trying to calm the civilians and assist the wounded was alerted and ran to the girl's aid, along with a 14 year old boy. One of the snipers shot the priest, the bullet exited him and killed a nearby civilian. As the 14 year old boy came to the priest's aid the sniper shot once again and killed him as he tried to drag the priest to safety. The girl, the priest, the man and the boy all died. The army dismissed the incident and I don't believe any disciplinary action was taken.
And it was 'nearly four decades', not 25 years and apparently hundreds of women were raped. Perhaps exaggerated but I feel there must be some truth at the heart of all this.
My point was merely that perhaps you should care about crimes and negligence like these.

There were countless reported rapes by US troops during the occupation of Japan and to many civillians during Vietnam. These incidents are not unknown to militaries within foreign countries. Rape is a crime worse then murder. The massive emotional damage that it entails to the victim is far worse then money can compensate. However, as I suspect, the staute of limitations is far past, so criminal prosecution of the people who committed these actions is impossible. The victims should get some type of compensation. Considering this is not a matter of lost wages but a violation of the most devastating degree, it's not a matter of potential income at all. Therefore their demands to me do not seem too large.

No one, especially no civilians are to blame for the activities of the IRA other than the IRA themselves!

It didnt take her 25 years to report it, her mixed race son is now 25 years old, which means she was raped 25 years ago which was when she reported it.

Adding something to the post, I think if it is found these claims have merrit, then I think the women should be paid. Armies are not supposed to conduct themselves in that manner.

I believe it was one thing, when women from a country were raped to impregnate, causing mass genocide. The reason being that these women who hated the rival nation so much, would use metal rods to rip out the fetus causing death to the fetus and sterility in the mother....
