I think all schools should institute uniforms. Dress codes themselves are only half a solution.

I personally feel strongly against uniforms. Just because I dont see a point in them.
I think that having uniforms has pros and cons for each institution. Does having uniforms comply with the schools core values? By having uniforms, would it enforce the learning environment for distract from it?

In Japan, like many other countries, many schools require uniforms in school. Many students try to "rebell" and wear their uniforms in different ways. For example, the girls would cut their skirts shorter, etc.

I like the idea behind dress codes, if they're enforced. I like the idea of a uniform much better, as it forces kids to be independent more than just in their new clothes that they got from American Eagle or other brand name store. It also spares those of us who don't care to go out and spend $40 or more dollars on a pair of jeans simply for the brand name.

Our school has a uniform policy although no one actually listens to it. I think that the school should have a uniform policy but let you change it, but keeping it the basic colours. Like we do now >.< No one except the year 7's wear the full school uniform. Although I keep it to the basics I wear different tops XD and a white belt and black converse.

Some people wear skinny fit jeans, jeans and etc.. only some teachers care and we are supposed to be year 11, be a role model. Like we care XD

I'm against dress codes beyond the basics (i.e. everyone must cover up private parts, clothing may not have offensive language). Individuality is important. If one is wearing a uniform, they can't express themselves through what they wear. If there is a strict dress code in place, it can be hard to express oneself. A few ground rules are needed for everyone's wellbeing, but other than that, schools should leave students with freedom.

well my school doesnt give a shit about anything now.
lots of wanna be gangbangers here and they sometimes
wear bandanas. and the security doesnt really bother
anymore on trying to make them take it off because
they'll just do it again when that security isnt around.

and for all you people who hate on not having school uniform...
well people who are still sluts are gonna somehow retain the look
of the school uniform while looking like a slut and those gangstas
are all gonna be matching and stuff with nice shoes and bling. and
those gothic~ish people are still gonna have those metal things all
over their body. and those nerds will still smell funny. and poor
people will still look poor while rich ass bitches will look rich.

people can do all that by still wearing the school uniform.

The whole point of uniforms is so that people can't express themselves through clothes. They're designed so as not to draw attention to what people are wearing, so that things like social class and how rich your parents are shouldn't matter. That's the theory, anyway.

It's also good to make the school look "nice" at functions. If all the the students are wearing a uniform, they look neat, tidy and part of a group. It reflects well on the school, too.

That reminded me of another problem. For low-income families, affording the uniform and other clothes (because no one's going to want to keep their uniform on when they get home) can be burdensome.

It's possible to do that without daily uniforms. For instance, my brother's school has a band uniform they have to wear for concerts. They can still wear whatever they want, within reason, during the school day, though.

Same with my brothers, when they had a band competition etc. they had to wear a nice shirt, and black pants..

I'm not big into a dress code, and with my high school, it really didn't matter if you were wearing the newest A.E. fashions or not, most people didn't care. I never liked the idea of uniforms, and at my school we dint have them thankfully.

I loved uniforms in high school.

I don't think many teens dress to express their individuality so much as they try to look rich or skanked out (girls anyhow).

Uniforms are just another rule that students and administrators waste time following.
